In fact, the successful fusion of those elements can trigger your sense of wonder so intensely that you’re virtually transported into the very world of that movie. And when that happens, you cease to be just a spectator. You become an emotional participant in the story.
Good filmmaking does that.
One of the main reasons we love movies is the sharing of that very experience with others on a giant screen – either in a cinema or in your own home theater. And when you find yourself leaving the theater in a state of exhilaration, then you know that you’ve just seen a truly great motion picture.

Now, we all have our favorite movies that did that to us and that we love. And, for sure, many different kinds of films appeal to many different types of audiences.
But, in truth, there’s no single “film idea” that is more universally cinematic than a chase. Chaplin and Keaton proved that a century ago. And if the villain in that chase is one born of preternatural horror, you have an action thriller that can morph into a sheer roller-coaster ride.
I’ve worked in the Hollywood motion picture industry, particularly in Visual & Optical Effects, for decades. And I’ve always held great love for Science-Fantasy movies that create that very effect in the viewer.
I specifically developed ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS to trigger this sensation – starting as an homage to the classic giant bug movies, but setting the story in the present day and pushing the physical horror beyond anything seen before. Its story is about everyday people caught in a life-or-death struggle with creatures displaced in time who are, likewise, struggling to survive.
Though ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS is a brutal tale that doesn’t pull any punches, its underlying theme, nonetheless, is this…
Man is a frail creature when pitted against the forces of nature – especially those encountered in our awesome western deserts. Heat, wind, flash floods, and earthquakes can break even the strongest. But no matter what the universe throws at him – be it some horror from the dark regions of time, the mysteries of outer-space, or an unpredictable tampering with the unknown – man’s ability to reason allows him to adapt, improvise, overcome, and prevail.
The Speculative-Fiction genres provide the most readily accepted means for delivering that message. And ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS shows that, when diverse people overcome their differences and unite, they can beat the odds and triumph.
Together, we’ll make this a great movie!
